VeggieVerve/Livingston Naturals Batana Oil Paste is a topical hair-and-scalp product from Elaeis oleifera nut oil, marketed for hair restoration, moisture, and shine. Batana oil has traditional Honduran use as a hair-care ingredient, and its high oleic acid + tocotrienol content is consistent with the general emollient-for-dry-hair mechanism seen with other plant oils (coconut, argan, jojoba). Peer-reviewed clinical evidence for batana specifically is essentially absent — it does not have RCTs comparable to minoxidil for hair regrowth, nor even comparable to argan oil for skin/hair care outcomes. Marketing implications of 'ancient hair secret' and 'restored hair' are aspirational rather than evidenced. More structurally: this is a topical product, which places it outside Vyvata's biohacking/supplement scope. The rubric autofail 'out_of_scope_for_biohacking' applies to topical-only cosmetic products since Vyvata is oriented toward ingestible interventions with systemic biological effect. Middling safety score reflects that batana oil is a low-risk plant oil (no acute toxicity signals); this is not a listable category on Vyvata regardless of the product's cosmetic merits.
The Vyvata score's Evidence dimension measures the quality of published RCT support for a product's active ingredients at the label dose. Our source hierarchy: double-blind RCTs in MEDLINE-indexed journals > single-blind RCTs > open-label trials > observational studies > mechanism papers > N=1 case studies (anecdotes). Predatory journals and manufacturer-authored studies without independent replication are weighted down.
Product-specific evidence citations for this item are embedded in the analysis text on the "Analysis" tab. For the full framework and evidence hierarchy, see the methodology page.

The Vyvata score measures product integrity against a published rubric, not customer sentiment. Vyvata does not aggregate, republish, or license third-party reviews — the links below open search pages on their respective platforms.
Every VSF-related metafield surfaced verbatim. Nothing hidden. If you spot data that looks wrong, let us know.
Every score is set from the published rubric, audit-logged, and rescored whenever new evidence emerges (published trials, updated labels, third-party testing releases). Every vendor is scored on the same criteria — no pay-to-play. See our editorial-independence disclosure for the full policy, including brands with an editorial relationship to this site.
