Beetroot's evidence base is real and specific: dietary nitrates in beetroot are converted to nitrite and then nitric oxide, transiently lowering blood pressure (systolic drops of 3-10 mmHg in acute trials) and improving exercise economy in trained athletes at doses of 400-800 mg dietary nitrate (roughly 500 mL of concentrated beetroot juice). The problem for capsule formats: capsule mass is far below the dose used in evidence-based endpoints. A typical 60-count capsule bottle at 500 mg per capsule delivers 30 g of beetroot powder over a month — a fraction of the nitrate content of a single beetroot juice serving.
