Why this scored 58/100
Single-gene MTHFR variant test (C677T and A1298C) via saliva sample. The genotyping itself is analytically reliable — MTHFR SNPs are well-characterized and PCR-based detection is highly accurate at any CLIA molecular lab. The problem is clinical utility: the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) has published explicit guidance recommending against routine MTHFR testing due to lack of clinical actionability outside of specific contexts (recurrent pregnancy loss, elevated homocysteine workup). Popular in functional medicine but not evidence-based for the way it's usually interpreted. Homocysteine (a blood test) is a more direct and actionable marker of methylation status.
