MacuHealth is a specialty ophthalmology-focused supplement brand whose flagship product delivers all three macular pigment carotenoids — lutein (10mg), zeaxanthin (2mg), and meso-zeaxanthin (10mg) — in a specific formulation supported by a substantial dedicated clinical trial program. The macular carotenoid category is one of the better-evidenced supplement categories: the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS and AREDS2, sponsored by the NIH National Eye Institute) established that lutein and zeaxanthin at supplemental doses reduce progression from intermediate to advanced age-related macular degeneration. MacuHealth's distinctive contribution is the addition of meso-zeaxanthin — a rare carotenoid that is the dominant pigment in the central macula but is not present in typical diet or in most competitor formulas. The Meso-Zeaxanthin Ocular Supplementation Trial (MOST) and multiple follow-on trials led by John Nolan's group at the Waterford Institute of Technology have shown that adding meso-zeaxanthin to lutein and zeaxanthin produces greater macular pigment optical density (MPOD) increases than lutein and zeaxanthin alone. The "Micro-Micelle Technology" refers to a lipid-based delivery system designed to improve carotenoid bioavailability, and MacuHealth has published PK data supporting improved absorption. This is one of the more evidence-supported single-purpose supplements in retail distribution. Verified tier reflects strong single-purpose brand focus, real dedicated clinical trial program, differentiated formulation (meso-zeaxanthin inclusion), and legitimate ophthalmology practitioner-channel positioning.
The Vyvata score's Evidence dimension measures the quality of published RCT support for a product's active ingredients at the label dose. Our source hierarchy: double-blind RCTs in MEDLINE-indexed journals > single-blind RCTs > open-label trials > observational studies > mechanism papers > N=1 case studies (anecdotes). Predatory journals and manufacturer-authored studies without independent replication are weighted down.
Product-specific evidence citations for this item are embedded in the analysis text on the "Analysis" tab. For the full framework and evidence hierarchy, see the methodology page.
FAQ data has not been generated for this product yet. See the site FAQ for general questions.
The Vyvata score measures product integrity against a published rubric, not customer sentiment. Vyvata does not aggregate, republish, or license third-party reviews — the links below open search pages on their respective platforms.
Every VSF-related metafield surfaced verbatim. Nothing hidden. If you spot data that looks wrong, let us know.
Every score is set from the published rubric, audit-logged, and rescored whenever new evidence emerges (published trials, updated labels, third-party testing releases). Every vendor is scored on the same criteria — no pay-to-play. See our editorial-independence disclosure for the full policy, including brands with an editorial relationship to this site.
