Why this scored 52/100

Dragon Pharma VENOM is a very-high-stimulant pre-workout carrying 400 mg of caffeine per serving, marketed for experienced users only. Even taking the brand's marketing at face value on 'clinically dosed performance ingredients,' the 400 mg single-scoop caffeine load is the primary problem: it hits FDA's total-day guidance in a single dose, leaves no room for coffee, a stacked pump product, or a second scoop, and pushes cardiovascular and sleep-disruption risk into a range where Vyvata will not list. That threshold applies even when the rest of the formula is competent. The reformulated (New) VENOM improved dose disclosure over the earlier prop-blend version, and Dragon Pharma operates cGMP-registered US contract manufacturing, but published per-lot COAs and third-party sport certification (Informed Sport / NSF Certified for Sport) are not standard on this line. Combined with the caffeine load, and typical secondary stimulants in the category (theobromine, higenamine or synephrine analogs common in 400 mg-caffeine pre-workouts) the safety profile is a hard gate. Rejected on safety grounds — not because the ingredients are novel or unstudied, but because the total stimulant load at a single serving crosses the guardrail we set for a home-use consumer product. Would become listable at Standard 55-62 with a caffeine cap at ~300 mg per scoop, dropping any synephrine/higenamine-class secondary stimulants, and adding Informed Sport certification.

Evidence & sources

The Vyvata score's Evidence dimension measures the quality of published RCT support for a product's active ingredients at the label dose. Our source hierarchy: double-blind RCTs in MEDLINE-indexed journals > single-blind RCTs > open-label trials > observational studies > mechanism papers > N=1 case studies (anecdotes). Predatory journals and manufacturer-authored studies without independent replication are weighted down.

Product-specific evidence citations for this item are embedded in the analysis text on the "Analysis" tab. For the full framework and evidence hierarchy, see the methodology page.

How to read the Evidence dimension

  • 80–100: Multiple double-blind RCTs in indexed journals directly testing this product OR the exact ingredients at the exact dose.
  • 60–79: Single double-blind RCT + supporting ingredient literature at the studied dose.
  • 40–59: Open-label trials + ingredient literature; no product-specific double-blind evidence.
  • 20–39: Ingredient literature only; no product-specific trials or trials in predatory venues.
  • 0–19: No credible evidence base or unverifiable claims.
