The Prysm iO is Nu Skin's third-generation biophotonic Raman-spectroscopy-based skin carotenoid scanner. This is a real, published biophotonic measurement technology — Bernstein and colleagues developed the underlying resonance Raman spectroscopy for skin carotenoid measurement (Ermakov 2004, Bernstein 2004), and Zidichouski et al. (2009) validated the specific Nu Skin scanner's ability to detect carotenoid intake differences. The scanner does measure what it claims to measure: skin carotenoid density at the palm, which correlates with dietary and supplemental carotenoid intake and roughly tracks fruit-and-vegetable consumption in dietary studies. Where the product is honest: as a personal biomarker feedback tool showing whether your carotenoid intake is rising or falling over time. Where the interpretation becomes overreach: skin carotenoid density is not a validated marker of 'antioxidant status', 'immune health', or 'biological aging' — it is a nutrient-intake biomarker, similar to serum vitamin D level. The Prysm scanner is also a purpose-built MLM sales tool: distributors use scanner readings to demonstrate that carotenoid intake is 'low' and to justify recommending LifePak. This is a real product with real validation being used in a partially misleading sales context. Standard tier as a legitimate biomarker device; would move to Verified with explicit disclosure that the measurement is a nutrient-intake biomarker and not a general 'wellness' or 'antioxidant status' score.
