NusaPure Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis) at a 20:1 extract 100 mg per capsule (marketed as 2000 mg raw equivalent). Dong quai is a traditional Chinese medicine herb used for menstrual and menopausal support. The published RCT evidence is limited and largely negative: Hirata 1997 (Fertil Steril) tested dong quai 4.5 g/day vs placebo in postmenopausal women and found NO benefit for hot flashes, vaginal maturation, or endometrial thickness. Documented safety concerns are substantial: dong quai contains furanocoumarins that cause photosensitization (Yun 2015); it has anticoagulant activity that potentiates warfarin (Page 1999, Ellis 2002 documented INR increases and bleeding events); it is a uterine stimulant contraindicated in pregnancy; and it may have estrogenic activity concerning for hormone-sensitive cancer history. The combination of thin efficacy evidence and multiple documented safety concerns places it firmly in Rejected under safety_concern.
The Vyvata score's Evidence dimension measures the quality of published RCT support for a product's active ingredients at the label dose. Our source hierarchy: double-blind RCTs in MEDLINE-indexed journals > single-blind RCTs > open-label trials > observational studies > mechanism papers > N=1 case studies (anecdotes). Predatory journals and manufacturer-authored studies without independent replication are weighted down.
Product-specific evidence citations for this item are embedded in the analysis text on the "Analysis" tab. For the full framework and evidence hierarchy, see the methodology page.

Every VSF-related metafield surfaced verbatim. Nothing hidden. If you spot data that looks wrong, let us know.
Every score is set from the published rubric, audit-logged, and rescored whenever new evidence emerges (published trials, updated labels, third-party testing releases). Every vendor is scored on the same criteria — no pay-to-play. See our editorial-independence disclosure for the full policy, including brands with an editorial relationship to this site.
